Een grote domper voor ons. In Oeganda is op dit moment een nieuwe lockdown van kracht. Alle scholen zijn opnieuw dicht. Ook Egoli Africa vocational center is gesloten. Op dit moment geldt er ook weer een verbod op reizen. Zo is het niet toegestaan om tussen verschillende districten te reizen. Dit vertraagd ons werk, maar we proberen te kijken naar wat wel mogelijk is.

Alle sponsor leerlingen en studenten zijn thuis. De kinderen uit p4, p5 en p6 hebben een rapport meegekregen. De sponsors van de kinderen die naar de basisschool gaan hebben het rapport en het nieuws al ontvangen. Het team in Oeganda geeft de komende tijd ondersteuning bij thuisonderwijs voor alle kinderen en studenten in het sponsorprogramma. Daarvoor hebben we de sponsorleerlingen in groepen verdeeld, radio’s en andere schoolmaterialen aangeschaft.

Gelukkig kunnen een aantal activiteiten wel gewoon doorgaan: de Farm Life workshops gaan met een beperkt aantal deelnemers door. We blijven zwangere vrouwen voorzien van birthkits. Mommaluv activiteiten kunnen gewoon plaatsvinden. Ook met de voorbereidingen voor het project bijen houden gaan we door, ondanks dat de training van imkers ook even stil komt te liggen. De shop in Kisozi blijft open.

De teleurstelling is groot, bij ons team maar ook onder mensen om ons heen in Oeganda. De veerkracht is gelukig niet weg. We denken in oplossingen, niet in beperkingen.

A big downer for us. Uganda is currently under a new lockdown. All schools are closed again. Egoli Africa vocational center is also closed. There is a ban on travelling at the moment. For example, it is not allowed to travel between different districts. This slows down our work, but we try to look at what is possible.

All sponsor pupils and students are at home. The children from p4, p5 and p6 have been given a report. The sponsors of the children who are going to primary school have already received the report and the news. The team in Uganda will provide support in terms of home education for all children and students in the sponsorship program in the period to come. For this we divided the sponsored students into groups, purchased radios and other school materials.

Fortunately, a number of activities can continue as usual: the Farm Life workshops will continue with a limited number of participants. We will continue to provide pregnant women with birth kits. Mommaluv activities can just take place. We are also continuing with the preparations for the beekeeping project, despite the fact that the training of beekeepers is also coming to a standstill for a while. The shop in Kisozi will remain open.

The disappointment is great, among our team but also among people around us in Uganda. Fortunately, the resilience has not gone away. We think in solutions, not limitations.
